Phoenix public relations executive Gordon James is in Hanoi this week as the lead advance representative for President George Bush’s first trip to Vietnam to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
James is facilitating the team of Americans and working with his Vietnamese counterparts to prepare for the president’s trip. Bush arrives there on Friday.
Since arriving in Vietnam 10 days ago, James has visited various sites, including a memorial to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Hanoi Hilton, where McCain was held as a prisoner of war.
“Though clearly not the intent of the Vietnamese, this memorial brings to life Sen. McCain’s struggle and contribution to his country,” James said.
He was a White House staff member under President George H.W. Bush and has worked with the Bush family for nearly 30 years. He runs Gordon C. James Public Relations.
