In 2003, the United States Department of State hosted an international conference to raise awareness of and build strategies to combat trafficking in persons and the international sex trade. Through a competitive process, the United States Department of State awarded Gordon C. James Public Relations a congressional grant to administer funds and plan all logistics associated with the production of this conference, entitled “Pathbreaking Strategies in the Global Fight Against Sex Trafficking.”

GCJPR was responsible for coordinating the site selection in Washington, D.C. and handling international travel and attendance of over 400 participants from 113 countries. Additionally, GCJPR staff produced the entire 3-day event, translated into the six UN languages, which included 20 workshop sessions, four general plenary sessions and three evening special events, dinners and receptions. GCJPR created all conference branding and identity materials for this event and led the dissemination of press materials and an on-site media center. GCJPR was also responsible for credentialing all press, conference delegates and staff personnel.

The conference was a huge success for the Department of State and for attendees combined. The Department of State released the following letter by President Bush along with Conference recommendations on May 29, 2003:

Letter from The White House

February 20, 2003

I send greetings to those gathered for the international conference, “Pathbreaking Strategies in the Global Fight Against Sex Trafficking.”
Sex trafficking has devastating effects on victims, families, and communities. To protect the rights of human dignity, I have signed a Presidential Directive to advance my Administration’s efforts to fight these crimes and to hold accountable those who engage in them. While working at home and abroad to raise awareness and to provide crucial assistance to victims, America is committed to helping eliminate this and all forms of trafficking in persons.
I commend the event organizers and all those participating in this conference for your important efforts to prevent sex trafficking, support its victims, and prosecute its perpetrators. Your work helps to improve the quality of life for countless individuals in our Nation and around the world.
Laura joins me in sending our best wishes.

George Bush
