Gordon James
Founder; Partner
Known for his extensive work in public relations and government affairs, Gordon C. James has built a reputation for bringing people and messages together on some of the world’s most visible stages.
Before founding Gordon C. James Public Relations (GCJPR), Gordon spent two decades in a range of business and political roles. Following the 1988 presidential election, he joined President George H. W. Bush’s White House staff, serving as lead advance representative to the President and as director of invitations and ticketing for the 51st Presidential Inaugural Committee.
In 1990, Gordon established GCJPR as a full-service agency specializing in media relations, event management, and government affairs. Two years later, he served as director of advance for President Bush during the 1992 presidential campaign. His team’s expertise would later be instrumental in the 2000 and 2004 election efforts for President George W. Bush, where Gordon was named director of special events for both the 54th and 55th Presidential Inaugural Committees. To this day, he continues to play a role in event management for the Bush family.

Gordon’s leadership extended beyond U.S. borders. In 2004, he spent more than five months in Baghdad as advance director for the Coalition Provisional Authority and director of the Presidential Palace Studio. There, he advised Ambassador Paul Bremer, coordinating communications with Iraqi citizens and media across the Western and Pan-Arab regions. The following year, Gordon served as lead advance representative for Presidents George H. W. Bush and William J. Clinton’s humanitarian tour of the tsunami-affected Maldives.
Beyond his political and government service, Gordon has led successful branding and media campaigns for a wide range of clients. His ability to connect strategic messaging with meaningful impact has made GCJPR a trusted name in communications and public affairs.
Gordon’s decades of dedication have been recognized through numerous honors, including his 2015 induction into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame and his 2017 appointment as senior advisor to the 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee. Deeply committed to his community, he serves on the boards of the ASU Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, The Veterans Medical Leadership Council of Arizona, the USS Arizona Legacy Foundation, Fisher House Arizona, and Crossroads.
A graduate of the University of Colorado, Gordon is married to Lisa James, and together they have seven children.
